This weekend: Bringing out the Carrie Bradshaw in all Dallas women

I have a ticket to one of tomorrow night's 7:30 p.m. showings of Sex and the City at Studio Movie Grill. A friend of mine bought them a week ago for eight of us girls who are attending together. Even though Studio Movie Grill in Dallas is showing the movie in four theaters, according to what I just saw on its website, all of tonight's showings at 6:35 p.m. and afterward are sold out.

I have no idea how many women will be out this weekend watching the premiere of the movie we've been hoping for and waiting to see ever since we found out Mr.Big's real name is John. Even if people didn't watch the series on HBO, thanks to TBS, WGN and CW syndicating the episodes (in slightly cleaner versions), they've rerun so many times that anyone who wanted to see the show should be caught up.

Despite what the name suggests, the show isn't all about sex. Yes, there's plenty of it sprinkled throughout the episodes, but it's the friendships between the four women in the show that kept viewers glued to their screens for eight seasons. That's why the women who show up at theaters this weekend all over Dallas will be coming in groups of girlfriends, often dressed to the hilt, and probably sipping Cosmopolitans before, after and even during the show (if they watch it at Studio Movie Grill).

It's not that men don't enjoy the show. The humor and true-to-life themes can be appreciated by both sexes. But in the end, it was never really about the men. It was always about the four girlfriends — and the city, of course.
